Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> \u2013 The Autorit\u00e9 des march\u00e9s financiers\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(the “AMF”) is proud to join the members of the Montr\u00e9al-based Institute for Data Valorisation\u00a0(IVADO), an organization that aims to bring together industry professionals and academic researchers to develop cutting-edge expertise in data science.<\/p>\n

“Joining the IVADO is very much in keeping with the orientations and objectives of our 2017-2020 Strategic Plan to deepen our understanding of technological innovations applied to the world of finance and strengthen our role as a local regulator in the fintech ecosystem,” said Louis Morisset<\/span>, AMF President and Chief Executive Officer. “Given the critical role that data science and artificial intelligence play in the evolution of the financial sector, we are delighted that the IVADO will be contributing to the work we are doing in our Fintech Lab.”<\/p>\n

Last spring, the AMF created its Fintech Lab to explore the current and potential applications of new technologies in the industry and in connection with its regulatory activities. Fintech Lab projects are carried out by interns who are university students in engineering and technology. As a member of the IVADO, the AMF will have access to training and leading-edge expertise to optimally define, structure and execute lab projects.<\/p>\n

About the AMF<\/h2>\n

The AMF is the body mandated by the Qu\u00e9bec government to regulate Qu\u00e9bec’s financial sector and assist consumers of financial products and services. Established under the Act respecting Autorit\u00e9 des march\u00e9s financiers<\/span><\/em>, the AMF is unique in that it oversees, in an integrated manner, the areas of insurance, securities, derivatives, deposit institutions\u2014other than banks\u2014and the distribution of financial products and services.<\/p>\n

About the IVADO<\/h2>\n

Founded by Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al, HEC Montr\u00e9al and Polytechnique Montr\u00e9al, the IVADO aims to bring together industry professional and academic researchers to develop cutting-edge expertise in data science, operational research and artificial intelligence. In essence, the IVADO creates opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration between the specialists, partners, researchers and students in its network.<\/p>\n

The objective of the IVADO is to be the link between academic expertise and the business needs of organizations, from international corporations to start-ups. With over 900 affiliated scientists, the IVADO is an advanced multidisciplinary centre for knowledge in sectors including statistics, business intelligence, deep learning, applied mathematics, datamining and cybersecurity.<\/p>\n
