CORNING, NY<\/span>,\u00a0March 25, 2019<\/span>\u00a0\/CNW\/ –\u00a0<\/b>Corning Incorporated<\/a>\u00a0(NYSE:\u00a0GLW<\/a>)\u00a0today formally opened a research and development center in\u00a0Montreal, Canada<\/span>, focused on discovering and developing software solutions for the telecommunications industry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Corning Technology Center Montreal will serve as\u00a0Corning’s<\/span>\u00a0global center of software innovation to support emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, cloud computing, and data analytics, as well as software solutions for optical-wireless networks. Software engineers from\u00a0Corning’s<\/span>\u00a0Research, Development and Engineering organization will collaborate with developers from iBwave Solutions, the\u00a0Montreal<\/span>-based provider of networking software solutions that\u00a0Corning<\/span>\u00a0acquired in 2015.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The\u00a0Montreal<\/span>\u00a0site joins\u00a0Corning’s<\/span>\u00a0network of research and development laboratories throughout\u00a0North America<\/span>,\u00a0Europe<\/span>and\u00a0Asia<\/span>, anchored by the company’s\u00a0Sullivan Park<\/span>\u00a0innovation center in\u00a0Corning, N.Y.<\/span>\u00a0Over the next three to five years,\u00a0Corning<\/span>\u00a0intends to hire software engineers, development team managers, and data analysts at the\u00a0Montreal<\/span>\u00a0center.<\/p>\n

“The combination of transformative technologies and applications such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things depends on the optical connectivity solutions made possible by\u00a0Corning’s<\/span>\u00a0innovations,” said\u00a0Claudio Mazzali<\/span>, senior vice president of technology for\u00a0Corning’s<\/span>\u00a0Optical Communications business segment. “The work that will take place here in our\u00a0Montreal<\/span>\u00a0technology center will extend\u00a0Corning’s<\/span>\u00a0innovation capabilities beyond optical transport and connectivity, all the way to the intelligence required to deploy and enable those applications.\u00a0Montreal<\/span>\u00a0is emerging as a major center of software innovation, and\u00a0Corning<\/span>\u00a0is glad to be part of it.”<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Montreal<\/span>\u00a0center’s initial focus will be software solutions for telecommunications networks, helping\u00a0Corning’s<\/span>customers unlock opportunities presented by emerging technologies. It will eventually become a hub for software innovation across all of\u00a0Corning’s<\/span>\u00a0business segments.<\/p>\n

Corning Technology Center Montreal will build ties to the region’s software-innovation community through membership in IVADO, the\u00a0Montreal<\/span>-based research institute for data science, operational research, and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n
