Students may also be enrolled in the <strong>University of Alberta<\/strong> or <strong>McGill University<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Must have a minimum average grade of B + (or equivalent: 3,3\/4,3 or 3\/4). The average taken into account is the cumulative average appearing on the bulletin for the semester preceding the competition date (fall 2019);<\/li>\n<li>Must have completed at least 24 credits at the beginning of the internship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The supervisor:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be a faculty member either\n<ul>\n<li>at <strong>HEC Montr\u00e9al, Polytechnique Montr\u00e9al or Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong>, or<\/li>\n<li>at the <strong>University of Alberta<\/strong> or <strong>McGill University<\/strong>\u00a0<i>and<\/i> a full member of one of IVADO\u2019s research groups (Mila, CIRRELT, GERAD, CERC Data Science for real-time decision making, CRM, Tech3Lab).<\/li>\n<li>Eligible professors are assistant professors, associate professors, full professors, research professors or visiting professors. Adjunct professors are not eligible.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Can not present more than three applications for interns for the same year.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the possible co-supervisor, there are no constraints.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"gdlr-heading-shortcode \"  style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 16px;font-weight: bold;\" >Funding period<\/h3>\n<p>The funding period starts <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">June 1st, 2020<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"gdlr-heading-shortcode \"  style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 16px;font-weight: bold;\" >Amounts and terms<\/h3>\n<p>The funds shall be transferred to the office of research of the supervisor\u2019s university, and the university shall pay the student according to its own compensation rules. For projects that require ethics approval, the funds shall only be paid out once the approval is granted. Some projects may require specific agreements (e.g. pertaining to intellectual property).<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"gdlr-heading-shortcode \"  style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 16px;font-weight: bold;\" >Competitive process<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Review and criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The applications shall be reviewed to ensure compliance with program rules (e.g. applications that are incomplete, exceed the page limit or list an ineligible applicant or supervisor). Only applications that meet all criteria will be forwarded to the review committee.<\/p>\n<p>The review committee will check the project\u2019s alignment between the research project and IVADO\u2019s scientific direction, then shall rank the applications based on\u00a0<b>excellence<\/b>, as well as the project\u2019s\u00a0<b>alignment with IVADO\u2019s overarching framework<\/b>, which aims to promote multidisciplinary collaboration and diversity in data science. In terms of excellence, the committee will specifically assess:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Student evaluation will be based primarily on his\/her grades and multidisciplinary and professional experiences, extra-academic activities, collaborations, contributions to the scientific community and society as a whole, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Quality evaluation of the proposed training will be based primarily on the quality of the research project in which the student will engage, but also on opportunities for training and introduction to research, susceptibility to encourage the applicant to continue in graduate studies and consistency between the internship project and the candidate\u2019s profile.<\/li>\n<li>For equal competence, preference will be given to a competent student from one of the target groups.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Final step and commitments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The student shall:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be physically present at his\/her supervisor\u2019s university;<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to IVADO\u2019s community and activities by, for example, taking part in:\n<ul>\n<li>presentations on his\/her research;<\/li>\n<li>training and knowledge dissemination activities;<\/li>\n<li>consultations;<\/li>\n<li>support during various activities;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Recognize that he\/she is a member of an academic community to which he\/she shall contribute;<\/li>\n<li>Comply with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.science.gc.ca\/eic\/site\/063.nsf\/fra\/h_F6765465.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tri-Agency Open Access Policy on Publication<\/a>. Students are encouraged to publish their research findings (papers, recordings of presentations, source codes, databases, etc.), in compliance with the intellectual property rules that apply to their own specific case;<\/li>\n<li>Recognize the financial support granted by IVADO and the CFREF when disseminating the research results and, more broadly, in all the activities in which he\/she takes part<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The supervisor shall:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide a work environment that is conducive to the completion of the project<\/li>\n<li>Oversee the work of the student<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"tab-content\" ><h3 class=\"gdlr-heading-shortcode \"  style=\"color: #00000;font-size: 16px;font-weight: bold;\" >FAQ<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What is the equivalent of a B +?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>HEC Montreal: 3.3 \/ 4.3<\/li>\n<li>Polytechnique Montreal: 3.0 \/ 4<\/li>\n<li>University of Montreal: 3.3 \/ 4.3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>How long should the internship be?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The internship must last between 6 and 12 weeks. The amount of the scholarship is&nbsp;$5,000 for 12 weeks, and pro-rated for shorter terms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>I am not registered for the summer session, but I am still an undergraduate student. Can I get an IVADO scholarship?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes. It is not mandatory to be registered in the session in which the internship takes place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Can my internship be credited?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes, insofar as the activity credited is in line with the spirit of the IVADO program, especially the initiation to research aspect.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Can I be enrolled in a course and an internship with IVADO during the same period?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes, as long as the internship supervisor accepts it, and that there is a clear agreement on working hours. The number of internship hours per week, however, must add up to full time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>I am a student with a student visa. Can I get an IVADO scholarship?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes, as long as your CAQ and study permit remains valid for the duration of the internship. For more information about the need to be enrolled in the Bachelor program, please contact your university.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>I have just finished my program in the fall, can I get an IVADO scholarship?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Depending on the institution where you will do your internship, it can be accepted. Please contact your university.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Can the IVADO scholarship be combined with the NSERC one (USRA)?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>No.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Is there a particular format for preparing a CV?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>No, there is no particular format that needs to be followed. However, each piece of the record must help the assessor to form an opinion on the record. A CV that is too long or confusing may make evaluation more difficult.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Can I send my unofficial transcript?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>No, you must upload us your official transcript including all your current results. Originals or certified copies must be scanned and uploaded to the application and for non-Canadian universities, you must specify the rating scale.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other questions?
