Unfortunately, many large groups in our society, particularly women, are currently underrepresented in these areas. The lack of diversity in this ecosystem hampers excellence and sustainable development in data science, and poses major risks to innovation. Festival<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sifn-montreal.com\/en\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Salon International de la Femme Noire<\/a><\/li>\n<li>AI training for women STEM graduates: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aiforsocialgood.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AI for Social Good Summer Lab<\/a> program<\/li>\n<li>Internship program to support the next generation of African scientists with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexteinstein.org\/about-us\/who-we-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">African Institute for Mathematical Sciences<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Allocation of research funds to young researchers from diverse backgrounds: <a href=\"https:\/\/vieux.ivado.ca\/en\/news\/press-releases\/appointments-to-three-frq-ivado-research-chairs-for-diversity-and-equity-in-data-science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FRQ\u2013IVADO research chairs for diversity and equity in data science<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]As part of Area 2, IVADO supports institutional and political changes:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>IVADO appointed Professor Vincent Larivi\u00e8re, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca\/chairholders-titulaires\/profile-eng.aspx?profileId=3073\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canada Research Chair in the Transformations of Scholarly Communication<\/a>, to conduct a survey of researchers in the IVADO ecosystem to better understand their perceptions and experiences related to EDI.<\/li>\n<li>IVADO supports researcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9pVInqRYsPw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gita Ghiasi<\/a>, whose work focuses on gender and equality issues in science and technology.<\/li>\n<li>Support for the creation and structuring of the Qu\u00e9bec Interuniversity Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Network, which brings together some 100 members from all the universities in the province.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15px&#8221;][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MhLmhvJ0Xy4&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As part of Area 3, IVADO commits to having its ecosystem of researchers and industrialists take into account equity in data science:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">First <a href=\"https:\/\/vieux.ivado.ca\/en\/trainings\/international-summer-school-on-discrimination-and-bias-in-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IVADO\/Mila International Summer School on Bias and Discrimination in AI<\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Support for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montrealdeclaration-responsibleai.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montr\u00e9al Declaration for Responsible AI<\/a>, which includes the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in the development of AI, and for the creation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.observatoire-ia.ulaval.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Observatoire international sur les impacts soci\u00e9taux de l\u2019IA et du num\u00e9rique<\/a> (international observatory on the societal impacts of AI and digital technology).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/youtu.be\/_98assVWoK8&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/youtu.be\/s4CcQYHNK9Q&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/youtu.be\/9pVInqRYsPw&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Diversity and data science IVADO creates synergies between three main areas of expertise that are changing our society: data analytics, operational research and artificial intelligence (AI).
