Veuillez acheminer votre candidature à info@ivado.ca.

SUMMARY:Engineering AI-Enabled Systems with Interdisciplinary Teams
DESCRIPTION:The 3rd International Symposium on Software Engineering for Machine Learning Applications (SEMLA) is here! \nGiven the current pandemic situation\, SEMLA 2020 will be held in the form of free webinars this year. \n\nSEMLA aims at bringing together leading researchers and practitioners in software engineering and machine learning to reflect on and discuss the challenges and implications of engineering complex data-intensive software systems. IVADO is very proud to support this important event. \nWhile everyone agrees that the development of new machine learning algorithms will enhance the potential of data analytics\, only their implementation in real-world systems will allow them to realize their full potential. From an engineering perspective\, once an algorithm is implemented\, it requires a solid architecture\, model/data validation\, proper monitoring for changes\, dedicated release engineering strategies\, judicious adoption of design patterns and security checks\, and thorough user experience evaluation and adjustment. All these activities require a combined knowledge in software engineering\, data science\, and machine learning. \nHence\, SEMLA invites all practitioners and researchers to get to know the results and opinions of world leaders in both machine learning and software engineering and to discuss their views on the above problems. \nUpcoming webinars\n▶️ June 17: Diego Oppenheimer\, Algorithmia \nDevOps for Machine Learning and other Half-Truths: Processes and Tools for the ML Lifecycle\n▶️ June 18: Christian Kästner\, Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science\nEngineering AI-Enabled Systems with Interdisciplinary Teams\n▶️ June 22: Samuel Deng et Achille C. SUMMARY:10th Montreal Industrial Problem Solving Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Tenth Montreal Problem Solving Workshop is organized jointly by the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) and the Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO). The workshop will bring together industrial representatives\, university researchers\, graduate students\, and postdoctoral fellows. Participants will work in teams\, each of which studying a problem proposed by a company or a public or quasi-public institution. One of the goals of the workshop is to provide companies or institutions with mathematical tools for solving problems. The workshop will also allow researchers and students in the mathematical sciences (including data science\, statistics\, optimization\, financial mathematics\, natural language processing\, and so on) to consider real-world problems. The organizers view the workshop as an “incubator” of collaborations between companies and university researchers; they expect the work carried out during the workshop to result in medium- and long-term projects\, financed through various types of grants. \nThe Montreal workshop is part of a Canadian tradition\, since PIMS (the Canadian mathematics institute based in Western Canada) started organizing such workshops twenty years ago (see www.pims.math.ca/industrial). In Toronto the Fields Institute is also organizing problem solving workshops (see for instance the site of the workshop organized with the National Research Council). The Canadian workshops have been designed on the model of the “study groups” pioneered by the University of Oxford (see www.maths-in-industry.org); by now this model has spread all over the world. \nProblems 2020 \n\nHere is the list of the 2020 problems\, along with their coordinators. \n1. Recurring Defect Clustering (Air Canada) Philippe Langlais (Université de Montréal) \n2. Data Anonymization and Synthesis (Desjardins) Sébastien Gambs (UQAM) \n3. Predicting the Hourly Ontario Energy Price in the Medium and Long Term (Hydro-Québec) Yi Yang (McGill) and Huaxiong Huang (United International College\, Zhuhai\, China) \n4. Predictive Risk Modelling in Aviation Incidents (IATA) Denis Larocque (HEC Montréal) \n5. Data Fusion for Controlling an Underground Mining Vehicle (Newtrax) Giovanni Beltrame (Polytechnique Montréal) \n\nMore info :\nhttp://www.crm.umontreal.ca/industrialprob2020/
