Becoming a Data Scientist

Training the next generations of data scientists

Evolving at a fast pace, technology shapes the future of our society and has ushered in a new era of massive data production. Never in history have we generated as much information as we do today.  Created by all types of organizations, the data is so substantial that it has become extremely difficult—almost impossible—to manage with conventional tools. Still, big data is of significant socioeconomic value and considered to be the new fuel of the 21st century, an essential component of the knowledge economy.

Data scientists are the architects of data extraction and valorization for the production of transferrable knowledge of high quality. They support the development of specific processes to extract trends, statistics and concrete information from the jumble of big data. Dubbed the sexiest job of the 21st century by the Harvard Business Review, the data scientist is the key to the major decision challenges of organizations.

The IVADO combines the expertise developed by three leading universities:  HEC MontréalPolytechnique Montréal and l’Université de Montréal to offer interdisciplinary academic programs, at the cutting edge of data analytics and business intelligence, operational research and artificial intelligence to train young data scientists.
