About

Contextual setting

Prior to the present excitement for Data science, the Science of decision-making and operations research were dealing with the study of complex problems since mid-20th century. From determining the optimal positioning of the first English radars during WWII, to the development of complex air flight schedules or to modelling of energy resources in a context of greenhouse gas emission control, applications are numerous and complex. For over 40 years GERAD and CIRRELT have developed an internationally known expertise in this field.

Format

  • Theory in the morning
  • Tutorials and case analysis in the afternoon
  • Tutorials will be in small groups

Targeted population

The content of this School is principally made for subject matter experts (SME) with a scientific background such as, but not limited to, engineers, computer scientists, statisticians, technical project managers, product managers, systems engineers and other. Having a mathematical mind is definitely an asset!

Pre-requisite

Basic level knowledge in mathematics and programming of a Bachelor of Science or engineering.

Objectives of the training

At the end of this school, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the general classes of problems they may be faced with;
  • Understand the basics of modeling applicable to a specific type of problem;
  • Have a clear idea of the tools used for problem solving;
  • Understand the inherent complexity of these problems as a whole.

Added value for participants

Montreal is reknown as a leader and a precursor in the field of Operations Research. Participants will be able to benefit from these experts’ knowledge.

Registration

  • Professionals: $1500
  • Professors: $750
  • Students and postdocs: $500

*IVADO members benefit from a 33% rebate on the Professional price; newly attributed free entrances from annual draw may be used.
